I am directed by Secretary Sir E.Grey to acknowledge the receipt of your letter 12747 of the 16th ultimo on the subject of the boycott of Japanese goods by Chinese at HongKong and to state, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies that the substance of the telegram from the Governor of HongKong enclosed therein was repeated to His Majesty's Ambassador at Tokio.
I am now to transmit to you, to be laid before the Earl of Crewe, a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Ambassador at Tokio on the same subject.
It will be seen that Sir F. Lugard telegraphed to Sir C. MacDonald as well as to Lord Crewe respecting the steps which he was taking to suppress the movement.
I am to suggest, for Lord Crewe's consideration, that,
The Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.
